SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Elmer W. Johnson of Orion, who passed away on June 7, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Elmer Johnson was born in Geneseo to Knute and Oliva Karlson Johnson on August 14, 1922; he served in the U.S. Marine Corp for four years and was stationed in the Pacific theater at Peleliu and Okinawa; he received two Purple Hearts during World War II; he married Mary Frances Cook at Beulah Presbyterian Church in Orion on November 30, 1947; and

WHEREAS, Elmer Johnson worked as an assembler, repairer, and painter at I.H. Farmall Works for 38 years; and

WHEREAS, Elmer Johnson was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Orion; he was on the St. Paul Lutheran Property Committee Cemetery Board for six years and was active in the American Legion; he was a member of the VFW and the local 1506 UAW Union; he was a Little League coach for Orion and visited all 50 states with his wife; he loved to paint during his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Elmer Johnson was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Margaret Johnson Hertz; his brothers, Carl and L. Willard Johnson; and his daughter-in-law, Phyllis Johnson; and

WHEREAS, Elmer Johnson is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Thomas Johnson, Daniel (Karen) Johnson, Marty (Suzanne) Johnson, and Malia (Steve Knochenmus) Owens; his half-brothers, Andy and Leonard Johnson; his half-sisters, Evelyn Schollerman and Iris Hamilton; his grandchildren, Kelly (Scott) Peterson, Kevin (Emily) Johnson, Sarah (Eoin) Walsh, Corey Johnson, Ashley (Tyler) Horberg, and Destiny Knochenmus; and his great-grandchildren, Kody and Bryan Peterson and Kyah and Kile Johnson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Elmer W. Johnson and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Elmer Johnson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
