SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Vernon L. Laurin of Rock Island, who passed away on May 18, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Vernon Laurin was born to Edna and Leo Laurin in Marinette, Wisconsin on December 21, 1919; during World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Lake Champlain Carrier in Engine Maintenance; after his service, he entered Marquette University and graduated in 1949 with a degree in mechanical engineering; Vernon married Ruth Caspari on December 9, 1942, and she passed away in 1966; he married Rita Kitt on May 5, 1973; and

WHEREAS, Vernon Laurin was employed by Barber Colman Company and became an Independent Representative for them with his own firm, Quint Co.; he retired in 1986 after 32 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Vernon Laurin was a 25 year member of the Kiwanis Club of Rock Island and a 50 year member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Vernon Laurin was an avid golfer who had four holes-in-one and was a lifetime member of Oakwood Country Club; he played in numerous opens held at the club and served on the Board of Directors in charge of House and Grounds for many years; he also enjoyed working out and reading Westerns; and

WHEREAS, Vernon Laurin was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ruth; his aunt, Irene Sauve; and his grandson, Matthew Myers; and

WHEREAS, Vernon Laurin is survived by his wife, Rita; his daughters, Annette Terronez, Corene Laurin, Georgene Myers, Jeanette Orr (Jeff), Suzanne Sharp (Ray), and Kerry Laurin (Kelly O'Reilly); his son, Gary Laurin; his numerous grandchildren; his several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Vernon L. Laurin and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Vernon Laurin as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
