SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jon Benjamin Oakleaf of Moline, who
4passed away on November 15, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jon Oakleaf was born in Moline to Joseph Benjamin
6and Janet Klein Rosenheim Oakleaf on July 18, 1939; he was
7educated at Moline schools and graduated from Moline Senior
8High School in 1957; he earned his Bachelor of Arts in English
9from Augustana College in 1961; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Following his graduation, he worked with his
11father in the insurance business for several years; he enlisted
12in the United States Army in 1964 and served with the 24th
13Psychological Warfare Detachment in the Central Highlands,
14Vietnam from 1965 until 1966; following his discharge from the
15Army, he worked with his father in residential construction; in
161969, he joined the staff of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline as
17a parish assistant, where he served for 33 years; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jon Oakleaf was involved with many local
19organizations, including the Moline Bicentennial Committee,
20the Rock Island County Historical Society, the Riverside
21Cemetery Trust Fund Endowment Board, the Board of Friendship
22Manor, the Moline Jaycees, the Quad Cities Archeological

1Society, and the WVIK Foundation Board; he enjoyed camping,
2cycling, local history, photography, small bore rifle
3competition, the study of and collection of American airguns,
4for which he was recognized as an authority, and other natural
5sciences; he enjoyed the study of genealogy and spent two
6summers in the Tobacco Root Mountains in Montana; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Jon Oakleaf married Shirley Jean Anderson in
8Moline, and they later divorced; on August 8, 1987, he married
9Jane Weaver Masek in Moline; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jon Oakleaf is survived by his wife, Jane; his
11sister, Joanne Alber; his nephews, Peter (Jenn) Alber, Brad
12(Sarah) Alber, and Michael Alber; his two great-nieces; and his
13three great-nephews; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Jon Benjamin Oakleaf and extend our sincere condolences to his
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Joan Oakleaf as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
