SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mary Alice Lanagan, who passed away on
4August 28, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Lanagan was born in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to
6Otis and Katie Duncan on September 10, 1936; she met her
7husband, Aaron "AW" Lanagan, in Steele, Missouri in 1955; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Mary Lanagan was an entrepreneur, leader, and
9pioneer in the world of business; she founded several
10businesses with her husband, Aaron; for over 25 years, they
11owned and operated the Cheri-Tan Restaurant, Lanagan's Lounge,
12the Gold Crest Grocery, the Nic-n-Pic Grocery, and the Colossal
13Shrimp House; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Mary Lanagan had a love of cooking and mastered it
15out of her desire to continuously learn; she collected over 200
16cookbooks and had binders full of recipes; she enjoyed watching
17the Food Network and numerous cooking shows; she loved the
18revelry of people and welcomed all with open arms, love,
19laughter, and a home-cooked meal; she had a vibrant personality
20and inspired others; and
 
21    WHEREAS, As a young girl, Mary Lanagan attended St. Paul

1Missionary Baptist Church in Steele, Missouri; after moving to
2Chicago, she became a member of Beth Eden Baptist Church; she
3later joined St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Mary Lanagan was preceded in death by her parents;
5her husband, Aaron; her brothers, Jodie and Billy; and her
6sisters, Helen and Fairy; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Mary Lanagan is survived by her children, Cherry
8(Stacy), Samara (Jermaine), Tangie (Floyd), and Nicholas
9(Dorian); her grandchildren, Rachel (Kevin), Chase, Erin, and
10Bryce; her brother, James Duncan; her sisters, Margaret Snell,
11Maudell Sands, and Dorothy Jean Davis; and numerous of nieces,
12nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Mary Alice Lanagan, and extend our sincere condolences to her
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Mary Lanagan as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
