SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joseph L. "Joe" Adler of Joliet, who
4passed away on June 9, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joe Adler was born to Joseph L. and Rachel Marie
6(Heintz) Adler on August 30, 1930; he attended St. Raymond
7Grade School, Joliet Catholic High School, and the University
8of Notre Dame; he served in the United States Air Force at Dow
9Air Force Base in Bangor, Maine and Misawa Air Force Base in
10Misawa, Japan; he married Jodie Biddle in 1952; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Joe Adler was past president of the J.L. Adler
12Roofing and Sheet Metal Company; founded in 1926, it is now a
134th generation company, with his three sons, three grandsons,
14and a granddaughter continuing the tradition of professional
15roofing and sheet metal work in Joliet and the northern
16Illinois area; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Joe Adler was a past president of the Chicago
18Roofing Contractors Association, past board member of the
19Vilaseca Day Care Center and the Boys and Girls Club of Joliet,
20and a founding member of the Will County Habitat for Humanity,
21the Spanish Community Center of Joliet, and the University of
22Notre Dame Senior Alumni Board; and

1    WHEREAS, Joe Adler and his wife were members of the Sacred
2Heart Parish Community in Joliet; during the winter months,
3they attended Mary Mother of Jesus Inclusive Catholic Community
4in Sarasota, Florida; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joe Adler and his wife were regional directors of
6the Christian Family Movement; they founded the Will County
7Conference on Religion and Race and the Spanish Community
8Center, for which they received recognition by the State of
9Illinois Senate for their work; they were members of the
10Chicago Catholic Jewish Dialogue Partnership and founded the
11Nationwide Tip the Maids Movement and the Young Christian
12Nurse's Movement; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Joe Adler was an avid sports fan; he built shrines
14for the Cubs and Notre Dame; one of his favorite treats was
15sharing a ball game with his sons, grandchildren, and sister;
16he loved Notre Dame and felt that the values of Notre Dame went
17far beyond football; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Joe Adler was preceded in death by his wife,
19Jodie; his parents; his infant daughter, Margaret Mary; his
20son, Michael; and his brother, Jack (Dorothy) Adler; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Joe Adler was a loving father, foster father,

1grandfather, and great-grandfather to Dan Adler and family –
2Jake (Megan) and son, Julian, Rachel (Robert) Ayoung Chee and
3two sons, Evan and Ian, Emma, Josh, and Nathan; Teddy (Ray)
4Finney and family – Bridget (Brad) Thomas and their daughters,
5Izzy and Ellie, Emily (Nanasei) Agyemang and their sons,
6Quentin, Finney, and Akosah, Jenna (Brian) Murphy and their
7children, Mary, Michael, and Bridget, Lily Saavedra White
8(Chris) and their children, Eric, Jessica, and C.J., and Beth
9(Jack) McGrath; Jackie (Sam) Tucci and family – Sam IV (Andrea)
10and their son, Sam V, Tony, Jeff (Annika) Tucci and their son,
11Peter; Chris (Lori) Adler and family – Meghan (AJ) Vivaldelli
12and their daughter Elizabeth, Matt (Katie), CJ, and Sarah; the
13late Mike (Joanne) Adler and family – Kelly (Eric) Mutch, Mike
14(Caitlin) and their children, Benjamin and Caroline, Erin
15(Dave) Skaggs and their daughter, Sophia, and Collin (Gail);
16and Jay (Patty) Adler and family – Jenny, Joe IV (Elisabeth)
17and their sons, Joseph V and Caleb and Jon (Amber); foster
18children, Mardo Caceres and Joy Basilisco and her son, Aaron;
19Joe was also blessed with one sister, Mary Beth (the late Dr.
20Arthur) Wilhelmi, brother-in-law, Fr. Ward Biddle,
21sisters-in-law, Jackie (late John) Berg and Ed Smith, and Mimi
22(late John) Aisthorpe; Joe was an inspirational uncle to
23numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
24    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
25ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1Joseph L. "Joe" Adler, and extend our sincere condolences to
2his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
3further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Joe Adler as an expression of our
6deepest sympathy.
