SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Patrick Dooley of Oak Park, who passed
4away on January 6, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Patrick Dooley was born in Minnesota and raised in
6the Minneapolis suburb of Richfield; he attended seminary and
7became a Diocesan priest as a young man; he left the priesthood
8after about ten years and moved to Chicago; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Patrick Dooley was, at one time, an activist for
10the American Federation of State, County and Municipal
11Employees and worked for the Department of Children and Family
12Services, where he inspected daycare centers to ensure that
13they were being run properly; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Patrick Dooley had a long and varied commitment to
15public service and volunteerism; he volunteered at the
16Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest's cemetery walk
17and house walk; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Patrick Dooley supported the efforts of the
19Democratic Party of Oak Park, especially during the 2012
20re-election campaign of President Barack Obama, taking long bus
21rides to Iowa to canvass for the President; and

1    WHEREAS, Patrick Dooley also lent his talents to the Frank
2Lloyd Wright Home and Studio for some twenty years; he was
3described as someone who was a "very giving person" and one who
4"cared about people"; his friends at the Home and Studio
5remembered him as that "Irish uncle that you would sit down
6with and listen to and talk to and exchange pleasantries with";
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Patrick Dooley was known to be a soft-spoken,
9helpful man and a dedicated foster parent who enjoyed
10frequenting ethnic restaurants; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Patrick Dooley is survived by his brother,
12Michael, and legions of friends and admirers; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Patrick Dooley and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Patrick Dooley as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
