SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Charles Robert Goodwin of Zion, who passed away on December 18, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Goodwin was born in Zion to Howard Charles Goodwin and Frances Catherine (Grom) Goodwin on April 29, 1931; he graduated from Warren High School and played semi-professional football with the Lake County Rifles and the Racine Raiders; he served honorably with the United States Army; he married Mary Catherine Casterton on June 20, 1953; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Goodwin was a lifelong farmer; he began his farming career on the Casterton/Goodwin Family Farm, where he worked until 1992; he then worked with Richards Farms until October 2017; he founded Goodwin Racing in 1967, which began a legacy that he shared with his sons, Greg and Jeff, and eventually his grandson, Garrett; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Goodwin was a lifelong member of the North Prairie United Methodist Church; he served on the Board of Directors of the Newport Township Fire Department for more than 20 years; he was humble and influenced many people; he enjoyed snowmobiling, racing, long road trips in the country, and all things John Deere; most importantly, he dearly loved his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Goodwin was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Ruthie Humphrey, Howard Goodwin, Richard Goodwin, Virginia Benson, and Thomas Goodwin; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Goodwin is survived by his wife, Mary Goodwin; his children, Greg (Pat) Goodwin, Cindy Goodwin (Steve) Padden, Sheryl Goodwin Magiera, and Jeffrey (Deanna) Goodwin; his grandchildren, Chanel (Broc) Crider, Tyler (Lyndsey) Padden, Jordan Padden, Andrew Magiera, Garret Goodwin, Garrick Hodge, Kelsey Hodge, Hannah Magiera, and Chase Goodwin; and his great-grandchildren, Nora Padden and Cash Crider; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Charles Robert Goodwin and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Charlie Goodwin as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
