HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Beth Tikvah Congregation
4on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of its founding; and
 
5    WHEREAS, 60 years ago, a small group of people had a vision
6to create and sustain a Jewish congregation in the northwest
7suburbs; today, Beth Tikvah is a vibrant congregation of more
8than 270 families serving those who live in over 30
9communities; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Beth Tikvah fosters a joyful approach to Judaism;
11its services are open to all and often feature their award
12winning choir; they provide for all life cycle events from baby
13naming to funerals; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Beth Tikvah has an education system that spans
15early childhood through high school; students who continue with
16Hebrew classes through high school can earn foreign language
17credits for their local high schools; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Social action and justice is a core value of Beth
19Tikvah: they serve dinner at a local PADS shelter one evening a
20month and provide lunch bags for the homeless and frozen meals
21for those in need; they have a garden that supplies fresh

1vegetables to the local food pantries and sponsor collections
2of winter clothes and women's clothes suitable for those
3reentering the work force; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Beth Tikvah is committed to outreach with local
5churches and mosques, with meetings and socializing in order to
6get to know each other; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9congratulate Beth Tikvah Congregation on its 60th anniversary
10and we wish them many more wonderful years; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12provided to Beth Tikvah Congregation as a symbol of our respect
13and esteem.
