HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Beth Tikvah Congregation on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of its founding; and

WHEREAS, 60 years ago, a small group of people had a vision to create and sustain a Jewish congregation in the northwest suburbs; today, Beth Tikvah is a vibrant congregation of more than 270 families serving those who live in over 30 communities; and

WHEREAS, Beth Tikvah fosters a joyful approach to Judaism; its services are open to all and often feature their award winning choir; they provide for all life cycle events from baby naming to funerals; and

WHEREAS, Beth Tikvah has an education system that spans early childhood through high school; students who continue with Hebrew classes through high school can earn foreign language credits for their local high schools; and

WHEREAS, Social action and justice is a core value of Beth Tikvah: they serve dinner at a local PADS shelter one evening a month and provide lunch bags for the homeless and frozen meals for those in need; they have a garden that supplies fresh vegetables to the local food pantries and sponsor collections of winter clothes and women's clothes suitable for those reentering the work force; and

WHEREAS, Beth Tikvah is committed to outreach with local churches and mosques, with meetings and socializing in order to get to know each other; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Beth Tikvah Congregation on its 60th anniversary and we wish them many more wonderful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be provided to Beth Tikvah Congregation as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
