HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of State
4Senator George P. Shadid, who passed away on February 3, 2018;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Senator Shadid was born in Clinton, Iowa to Edna
7Massad and Philip A Shadid on May 15, 1929; he married Lorraine
8K. Unes on May 30, 1953; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Senator Shadid became a Peoria Police Officer in
101953 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1976; he was elected
11Peoria County Sheriff in 1976; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Senator Shadid served as the state senator from
13the 46th District of Illinois from 1993 to 2006, some of those
14years next to his seatmate then-State Senator Barack Obama,
15which led to a lifelong friendship; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Senator Shadid listened to his constituents and
17was always there to offer a helping hand; he prided himself on
18voting the way he thought was best for his constituency and not
19along party lines; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Senator Shadid always made time for his family

1throughout his career; he also was known for his interest in
2encouraging the good in people and channeling that good for a
3greater purpose; in that process, he felt free to dispense
4praise or discipline as needed; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Senator Shadid was proceeded in death by his son,
6George Shadid Jr.; and his siblings, Gladys Abraham, Louise
7Shadid, Joan Petit, Jeannette Harris, Mitchell Shadid, and
8William Shadid; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Senator Shadid is survived by his wife, Lorraine
10K. Unes; his son, Jim (Jane) Shadid; his daughter-in-law, Mikie
11Shadid; his grandchildren, James E. (Anne) Shadid, Joseph G.
12Shadid, Margaret L. Shadid, and Lauren E. Shadid; his sister,
13Pauline Unes; and his brother, Fred (Jean) Shadid; therefore,
14be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17mourn the passing of State Senator George P. Shadid and extend
18our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who
19knew and loved him; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Senator Shadid as an expression of
22our deepest sympathy.
