HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of John
4Eddie "Brother John" Goodwin, who passed away on November 13,
52017; and
 
6    WHEREAS, John Goodwin was born in Argo to James Nolan and
7Willa Celestra Goodwin-Smith on September 22, 1940; he
8graduated from Argo High School, where he played basketball and
9football; he then studied art at the Art Institute; he served
10in the United States Army for two years; he married Tula Elaine
11Jones on September 22, 1968; and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Goodwin was a songwriter, poet, inventor, and
13singer; and
 
14    WHEREAS, John Goodwin was active in the church; he served
15as the choir president and a youth mentor; he joined the
16ministry in 1973 and later discovered his passion for outreach
17through street ministry; he helped grow ministries by teaching
18the importance of running an effective outreach ministry; and
 
19    WHEREAS, John Goodwin was preceded in death by his
20siblings, Patricia Marie Walker, Emma LaJune Roseberry, Doris
21Corine Jackson, Flora Teresa Goodwin, and Matthew William

1Goodwin; and
 
2    WHEREAS, John Goodwin is survived by his children, Deshaun
3Lynette (Rickey) Wallace, Kristy Renee, and John Earl Nolan
4(Chassidy); his grandchildren, John Nolan, Trinity Tinae, and
5Jaida Jackson; his siblings, James Nathaniel (Lynn), Turner Lee
6(Ethel), and Willa Beatrice Mills, and his many cousins,
7nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10mourn the passing of John Eddie "Brother John" Goodwin and
11extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all
12who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of John Goodwin as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
