HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Thomas E. Ryan Jr. on the occasion of his retirement as President of Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2 after nearly a decade of service; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Ryan Jr. has been a Chicago firefighter and member of Local 2 for nearly 32 years, joining in 1985; he is a Certified Fire Investigator; he also has certifications as an Emergency Medical Technician B and Hazardous Materials Technician A; he was promoted to Lieutenant in 2006; and

WHEREAS, As President of Local 2, Thomas Ryan Jr. has overseen the creation of programs such as the Local 2 Health Fair, Heart Scan, and the Cancer Dogs; he also served as Vice-President, Steward, and Chairman of numerous committees; and

WHEREAS, Local 2 provides Tech A and B training, EMT P and B refresher courses, and engineer promotional classes; it helps the most vulnerable members and their families through the Employee Assistance Program and the Retirees Committee; and

WHEREAS, Local 2 renders financial and spiritual support to charities such as the Local 2 Toy Parade, the Widows and Orphans Fund, Chaplains Ministries, the Gold Badge Society, Ignite the Spirit, the 5-11 Club, the CFFU Burn Foundation, the 100 Club of Chicago, the AFFI Warrior Program, MDA, Make-A-Wish, the Special Olympics, Autism Speaks, and many others; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Ryan Jr. and his wife, Lisa, were married in 1991; they have two children, Zachary and Anthony; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Thomas E. Ryan Jr. on his retirement as President of Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2 after nearly a decade of service, and we wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Thomas Ryan Jr. as an expression of our esteem and respect.
