SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with great sadness of the death of Daniel W. "Dan" Schindlbeck of Aurora on Tuesday, June 8, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Schindlbeck was born on August 10, 1943, in Aurora to Joseph and Bernice (Modaff) Schindlbeck; he was a 1961 graduate of Marmion Military Academy; he earned a Master's Degree in criminal justice from Michigan State University in 1976, and has continued his police education by attending numerous police seminars and training sessions throughout his law enforcement career; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Schindlbeck was an Aurora Police Officer for 28 years, reaching the rank of lieutenant before retiring in 1994; while on the force, he helped develop community-policing programs in Aurora; he went on to develop similar programs when he was employed with the Kane County Sheriff Department, where he had served for the past 10 years; he was currently serving as the Undersheriff; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Schindlbeck was a member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club, a past president of the Kane County Chiefs of Police, a member of the Illinois Chiefs of Police, the Illinois Sheriffs' Association, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #14, the Illinois Police Association, the Aurora Turners Club, Batavia Moose Lodge #682, and Holy Cross Church in Batavia; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Schindlbeck was an avid golfer and card player and loved to ride his Harley and his John Deere tractor; he was a caring, loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed being with his family and friends; he is remembered with a sense of humor that few could resist; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Daniel W. "Dan" Schindlbeck has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife of 39 years, Janice (Nowodzelski) Schindlbeck; his children, Steven (Pamela) Schindlbeck, Christine (David) Fitzgerald, and Stacey (Mickey) Vaja; his grandchildren, Megan and Adam Fitzgerald and Allison Schindlbeck; his parents, Joseph and Bernice Schindlbeck; his sister, Jodeen Lautwein; and his many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Daniel W. "Dan" Schindlbeck, and we extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Daniel W. "Dan" Schindlbeck as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
