SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert Joseph "Bob" Hogan, who passed away on February 12, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hogan was born to Joseph and Eloise Hill Hogan on January 30, 1934; he attended St. Agnes Elementary School and graduated from Cathedral Boys High School; he served in the U.S. Army for two years and then graduated from the University of Illinois Police Training Institute; he married Carol Lee Spears in Alton on August 27, 1960; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hogan served the City of Springfield for 31 years as a police officer and retired in 1993 as a detective sergeant; he worked security at the Illinois State Fair for 33 years; he was the state treasurer for the Police Benevolent and Protection Association of Illinois and was also president of the Springfield unit; he was appointed to the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, which oversees the training of all police officers in the State; after retiring from the Springfield Police Department, he worked security in the Illinois Senate, where he met former State Senator and U.S. President Barack Obama; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hogan received the William Herndon Award in 1979 for the outstanding arrest of the year; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hogan was affectionately know as "Bobby" or "Bobby Joe"; he enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame football; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hogan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol; his daughter, Kelli S. Hogan; his granddaughter, Lily E. Hillyer; and his brother, Joseph "Jody" Hogan; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hogan is survived by his son, Robert Kevin Hogan; his daughter, Kristi Jo (Eric) Hillyer; his grandchildren, James (Kayla), Jacob, Chloe, and Ava; his sister-in-law, Sue Buoy; his great-grandson, Owen; and his niece, Stacey (Dean) Graven; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Robert Joseph "Bob" Hogan and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bob Hogan as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
