SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Illinois is a culturally diverse state with an
3equally diverse tourism and hospitality industry; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Illinois is a premiere location for business and
5leisure travelers, offering fine dining, shopping,
6recreational activities, business, and a wide array of
7attractions; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Illinois is a vibrant and robust destination for
9local, national, and international visitors; and
 
10    WHEREAS, It is essential to support the tourism and
11hospitality industry due to the vital part it plays in the
12State's economy; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In 2021, 97.1 million visitors spent $32.2
14billion across Illinois' economy, spanning multiple
15industries; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The $32.2 billion in visitor spending means that
17nearly $88.3 million was spent every day by visitors in
18Illinois in 2021; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Housing accommodations, food and beverage,

1recreation, retail shopping, local transportation, and air
2travel all flourish when the tourism and hospitality industry
3of Illinois is thriving; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The number of jobs sustained by tourism (388,800)
5supports 6.8% of all jobs in Illinois; and
 
6    WHEREAS, While the pandemic created enormous challenges
7for the tourism industry, the recovery has been strong; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The future of Illinois tourism is bright with no
9limit to its growth; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF
12REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we recognize the
13formation of the Tourism and Hospitality Caucus to promote the
14industry throughout the State; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That we encourage support for Illinois' tourism
16and hospitality industry.
