SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Steven G. "Steve" "Mazz" Mazzarella of
4Naperville, who passed away on January 12, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Steve Mazzarella was born in LaGrange to Joseph
6and Dolores Mazzarella on November 30, 1956; he attended St.
7Cletus Grade School and graduated from Lyons Township High
8School in 1974; he received his Bachelor of Arts in Education
9from Western Illinois University and his master's degree in
10education from the University of Illinois; he married Lesly A.
11Sartori on August 12, 1984; and
 
12    WHEREAS, After working as a fireman for the LaGrange Fire
13Department, Steve Mazzarella began a 30-year teaching career at
14Naperville North High School, where he taught health and
15coached springboard diving; as a teacher, he incorporated a
16focus on mental health; he excelled at helping high school
17athletes prepare for the internal challenges of diving and
18helped them build "mental stamina"; after he retired from
19teaching, he worked as a substitute to stay connected; he also
20worked as a pool manager at the Farmstead Swim & Racquet Club
21in Naperville during the summers; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Steve Mazzarella was a mentor with Operation

1Snowball for many years, where he continued to promote student
2well being; he was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic
3Church in Naperville; he enjoyed water skiing, running, and
4spending time at the family cottage in Colon, Michigan; he ran
5the Boston, Chicago, and Naperville Marathons; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Steve Mazzarella's purpose was to treat everyone
7with love and acceptance, to live life with passion, and to
8show others how they could do the same; he will be remembered
9by his family, friends, students, and colleagues as a person
10who loved life and tried to serve others every day; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Steve Mazzarella was the beloved husband of Lesly,
12the loving father of Patrick (fiancee, Liza Zaydes) Mazzarella,
13Megan (Ben) Coleman, and Matthew Mazzarella, the adored
14grandfather of Emma Nicole Mazzarella and Gwen Carmella
15Coleman, the devoted son of Joseph and Dolores Mazzarella, the
16dear brother of Joseph (Ann) Mazzarella and the late Donna
17(Tom) Wood, the son-in-law of the late Daniel J. and Joanne
18Marie Sartori, the brother-in-law of Amy (Gary) Williams, Jill
19(Frank) Knight, Dana Sartori, and Meredith (Ted) Manikas, and
20the fond nephew, uncle, great-uncle, godfather, and friend of
21many; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
23ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1Steven G. "Steve" "Mazz" Mazzarella and extend our sincere
2condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
3him; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Steve Mazzarella as an expression of
6our deepest sympathy.
