SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gerald Dean Augsburger of Normal, who passed away on October 3, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Dean Augsburger was born in Flanagan to Elmer and Mabel Yordy Augsburger on September 16, 1921; he served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe and spent three consecutive birthdays far from home; at the end of the war, he was stationed near his family's ancestral home in Germany; he married Mary Etta Campbell in Pontiac on May 21, 1949; and

WHEREAS, Dean Augsburger owned his own plumbing business in Flanagan until the early 1970s, when he moved to Bloomington-Normal and partnered with his brother Joseph at Augsburger Plumbing; he continued to work in the plumbing trade until his late 80s; and

WHEREAS, Dean Augsburger's outside interests included golf and following the Chicago Bears; he doted on his grandchildren and spent countless hours with them; he was proud to be an American and flew the U.S. flag wherever he lived; he was a member of First United Methodist Church in Normal and several fraternal and service organizations during his years in Flanagan; and

WHEREAS, Dean Augsburger was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; and

WHEREAS, Dean Augsburger is survived by his children, Jeffrey (Barbara) and Dennis Augsburger; his grandchildren, Brad (Amy Harrison) Augsburger and Laurel (Aaron) Davis; and his siblings, Delbert and Donald Augsburger and Florence Bryant; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Gerald Dean Augsburger and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dean Augsburger as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
