SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Nicholas G. Byron of Edwardsville, who
4passed away on August 4, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Nicholas Byron was born in Lansing, Michigan to
6George and Frances (Antonopoulos/Damaskos) Byron on October
728, 1929; he earned his Bachelor of Science from John Hopkins
8University in 1953 and married Mary Theodosia Barnsback in
9Elkton, Maryland on May 2, 1953; he served in the United States
10Army from 1953 to 1955 and was honorably discharged with the
11rank of 1st Lieutenant; he earned his Juris Doctorate from
12Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri in
131958; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Nicholas Byron and his family settled in
15Edwardsville in 1961; he served in several elected offices,
16including as an alderman of the city of Edwardsville from 1968
17to 1972, as Madison County State's Attorney from 1972 to 1980,
18as circuit court judge for the Third Judicial Circuit in
19Madison County from 1980 to 2018, and as chief judge of the
20circuit court from 1994 to 1998; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Nicholas Byron was an active member of the
22Illinois & Missouri State Bar Associations; he also served as

1vice president of the National District Attorney's Association
2and as president of the Illinois State's Attorney Association;
3he served on the board of directors for the Edwardsville
4National Bank & Trust for many years; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Nicholas Byron was preceded in death by his wife
6of 64 years, Mary; his son, Andrew George Byron; and his
7parents; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Nicholas Byron is survived by his sons, Dr.
9Jonathon Roy (Didda) and Christopher William (Kathleen) Byron;
10his daughters, Mary "Mimi" Elizabeth and Barbara Ellen Byron;
11and his grandchildren, Evelyn Anna Allen, Daniel William
12Garcia, Christopher William Byron Jr., Caroline Frances Byron,
13and Andrew George Byron II; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Nicholas G. Byron and extend our sincere condolences to his
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Nicholas Byron as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
