HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to commend Evangeline Semark on her service as President of the Howard Area Community Center's Board of Directors; and

WHEREAS, Evangeline Semark has spent more than a decade as a leader of the Howard Area Community Center (HACC); she was elected President of the Board of Directors in 2013; as president, she has worked to ensure that issues of equality and social justice are centered in HACC programs and culture and has helped bring tens of millions of dollars of funding to the communities HACC serves; she has been a valued friend, colleague, and ally to many members of the HACC and the greater Rogers Park communities; and

WHEREAS, In addition to serving as President of the Board of Directors, Evangeline Semark has served as a member of the HACC Young Professionals Board; from 2009 until 2013, she served as Vice President of the Board of Directors; and

WHEREAS, The Howard Area Community Center began as a food pantry in 1967; since then, it has grown into one of the premier direct service agencies on Chicago's Far North Side; today, it provides direct services to thousands in the greater Rogers Park area each year, including affordable and free education, employment, and health assistance programs; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Evangeline Semark on her service as President of the Howard Area Community Center's Board of Directors, and we wish her continued success in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Evangeline Semark as an expression of our esteem and respect.
