HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Gwen Gage Ed.D. on being named the 2019 Woman of the Year by the Altrusa International Club of Elgin; and

WHEREAS, Gwen Gage has worked in the field of education for 27 years; she retired in 2013 but was called to return to her former school district on two occasions as a co-principal; and

WHEREAS, Gwen Gage has enthusiastically donated her time and skills to the Elgin Symphony League; from 1997 to 2003, she worked in its boutique; she served as orchestra hostess from 2003 to 2006; she is often found in the kitchen, helping along with other league members; she was elected board co-chair (2007-2009) and membership chair (2006-2007); she was appointed governance chair in 2014 and continues serving in that role today; since retiring from her position as a school administrator four years ago, she has ushered at the Elgin Symphony Orchestra's Ainsworth Concerts for Youth; and

WHEREAS, Gwen Gage has tirelessly worked for over 20 years to support the mission of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra; she also serves many other community organizations, including Soiree Lyrique, the Black History Family Festival, the Gail Borden Library, and Hamilton Wings; and

WHEREAS, Gwen Gage's leadership abilities are evidenced by the number of elected and appointed positions she has held with various organizations; when she sees that she is needed, she steps up; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Gwen Gage Ed.D. on being named the 2019 Woman of the Year by the Altrusa International Club of Elgin and commend her commitment to volunteer service for the benefit of her community and State; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Gwen Gage as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
