HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of C.L.
4"Charles Lester" Patterson of Chicago, who passed away on March
512, 2019; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Charles Lester was born to C.L. and Stella
7(Carter) Patterson on May 8, 1943; he lived his entire life on
8the Southeast Side of Chicago; he was named after his father
9with the initials C.L.; when he started school at Bart
10Elementary, he was asked to give his full name, so he chose
11Charles Lester Patterson Jr. and was called by that name ever
12since; he graduated from DuSable High School, where he and a
13few friends formed the singing group The Inspirations; with
14their classic Chicago soul harmonies, range, and style, he and
15the group were often called upon to sing at parties but
16declined opportunities to professionally advance in the music
17business; after graduation, he studied computer science at
18Robert Morris College and worked nights; he married Sandra
19Marie Verner on November 6, 1966; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Charles Lester worked for Continental Bank and
21United States Steel Works; he retired from Burlington Northern
22and Santa Fe Railroad Company in May 2003, after 37 years of
23service; and

1    WHEREAS, Charles Lester was a dedicated member of the Power
2Circle Congregation and the Christian Men of Power Circle
3Congregation (CMPCC) and sang in the church choir; he enjoyed
4dancing, singing, playing board and computer games, watching
5sports and television programs, and a spirited game of Bid
6Whist; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Charles Patterson was preceded in death by his
8parents; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Charles Patterson is survived by his wife, Sandra
10Marie; his daughter, Danita Elise; his father-in-law, Roy C.
11Verner; his uncle, Auguster Miner; his aunt, Eunice Verner; his
12sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Janice Harris, Lloyd
13Baugh, Rose Powell, and Roy C. (Diana) Verner Jr.; his nephew,
14Roddrick (Latonja) Verner; his nieces, Bridgette (Ricky)
15Ellis, Cheryl Lynn (Jimmy) Horn, Tracy Harris, and Shannon
16(John) Stokes; his great-nephews and great-nieces; his
17longtime friends, James and Patricia Majors; the entire Power
18Circle Congregation Family; and his many other family members
19and friends; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
21HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
22we mourn the passing of C.L. "Charles Lester" Patterson and

1extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all
2who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Charles Patterson as an expression
5of our deepest sympathy.
