SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

Amends the Regional Board of School Trustees Article of the School Code. Provides that a vacancy on the regional board of school trustees shall be filled from the same county (rather than territory) by the remaining board members until the next election and that removal of the member filling the vacancy from the county shall constitute a vacancy. Effective immediately.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning education.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section 6-19 as follows:

(105 ILCS 5/6-19) (from Ch. 122, par. 6-19)

Sec. 6-19. Vacancy on regional board. Notwithstanding Subject to the residency provisions in Section 6-2 of this Code, any vacancy on the regional board of school trustees shall be filled from the same county territory by the remaining members until the next regular election for members of the regional board of school trustees, when the vacancy shall be filled for the unexpired time and shall then be subject to the residency provisions in Section 6-2 of this Code. Removal of a member from the township from which such member was elected into a township which has its quota of members on the board shall constitute a vacancy. Removal of a member filling a vacancy until the next election from the county from which he or she was selected shall constitute a vacancy.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
