AN ACT concerning revenue.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||
represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||
Section 5. The Property Tax Code is amended by adding | ||||
Section 27-87 as follows: | ||||
(35 ILCS 200/27-87 new) | ||||
Sec. 27-87. Special service areas to protect the health and | ||||
safety of workers, tenants, and visitors in buildings. A | ||||
municipality may propose a special service area as provided in | ||||
this Law for the purpose of providing improvements to any one | ||||
or more buildings if the improvements are required by municipal | ||||
ordinance in order to protect the health and safety of workers, | ||||
tenants, and visitors in the buildings; provided that if the | ||||
owners of 100% of the number of lots, tracts, and parcels of | ||||
the real estate that are to be subject to the tax file a | ||||
petition with the clerk of the municipality agreeing with the | ||||
establishment of a special service area, then the corporate | ||||
authorities of the municipality may proceed with the | ||||
establishment of the special service area. If a petition is not | ||||
filed or contains an insufficient number of signatures, the | ||||
corporate authorities of the municipality may not proceed | ||||
further, and the same establishment of a special service area | ||||
shall not again be initiated for a period of one year.
