HIGH ED-INCREASE MAP GRANT AMT                                             

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Amends the Higher Education Student  Assistance  Act.   Increases      
   the  maximum  Monetary Award Program grant for full-time undergraduate      
   students to $4,968  (from  $4,740)  and  for  part-time  undergraduate      
   students to $2,484 (from $2,370). Effective July 1, 2001.                   
        HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1.

        Amends  the  Illinois  Financial  Assistance  Act  for  Nonpublic      
   Institutions of Higher Learning, the Health Services Education  Grants      
   Act,  and  the  Illinois  Consortium  for Educational Opportunity Act.      
   Makes changes concerning grants for nonpublic institutions  of  higher      
   learning, the Board of Higher Education reporting its activities under      
   the Illinois Financial Assistance Act for Nonpublic Institutions of         
   Higher Learning, grants made to health-related schools and programs         
   and to hospitals and clinical facilities used in health service             
   training programs, and the amount of an award under the Illinois            
   Consortium for Educational Opportunity Program. Further amends the          
   Higher Education Student Assistance Act. Provides that at the request       
   of the Executive Director of the Commission, the Comptroller shall          
   transfer funds from the Federal Student Loan Fund into the Student          
   Loan Operating Fund. Increases to $3,500,000,000 (from $2,100,000,000)      
   the aggregate principal amount of bonds (other than refunding bonds)        
   issued by the Commission under the Education Loan Purchase Program Law      
   that may be outstanding at any one time. Varied effective date.
