Short description: 
IDPH-PKU TESTING-CHOICE OF LAB                                             

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Amends the Phenylketonuria Testing Act. Provides that the  parent      
   or  legal  guardian  of  a newborn infant, or the health care provider      
   attending the newborn infant, may choose to  have  expanded  screening      
   for  metabolic  and  genetic  disorders  performed  at  an  accredited      
   laboratory  of  his  or  her choice.  Provides that if a parent, legal      
   guardian, or health care provider chooses to have  expanded  screening      
   for  metabolic  and  genetic  disorders  performed  at  an  accredited      
   laboratory  of his or her choice, the Department of Public Health must      
   accept the results of that screening for any disorders required  under      
   the  Act and must ensure that those results are included in the health      
   records maintained by the State. Effective immediately.
