Short description: 
TEACHER INDUCTION & MENTORING                                              

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Amends the School Code. Requires that (i) by the beginning of the      
   2003-2004 school year, each  school  designated  as  a  low-performing      
   school  by  the  State  Board  of  Education and (ii) by the 2005-2006      
   school year, all school districts must  establish  and  administer  an      
   induction  and  mentoring program to assist new teachers in developing      
   the skills and  strategies  necessary  for  instructional  excellence.      
   Requires  a  plan  to  be  developed  for  the  program  and  includes      
   requirements  that  the  plan  must  comply  with.  Provides for State      
   assistance, including grants to school districts for implementation of      
   their plans. Provides for the compilation and  analysis  of  statewide      
   data on these programs and a statewide evaluation of these programs by      
   the State Board of Education. Effective immediately.
