Short description: 
SCH CD-REIMBURSE TRANSPORT K-2                                             

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Amends the School Code.  Allows a school board  to  provide  free      
   transportation  for  a pupil residing within 1.5 miles from the school      
   attended if the pupil is in kindergarten or  first  or  second  grade.      
   Provides  that  a  school  district  that provides this transportation      
   shall be reimbursed by the State.  Effective July 1, 2001.                  
        HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1.                                                 
        Also allows a school board to provide free transportation  for  a      
   pupil  residing within 1.5 miles from the school attended if the pupil      
   is in third grade, with reimbursement by the State.  Requires a school      
   district to certify, by September 1, to the State Board  of  Education      
   the  onset  of  transportation services for resident pupils who are in      
   kindergarten or first, second, or third grade and reside less than 1.5      
   miles from the school attended.  Changes the effective date from  July      
   1, 2001 to July 1, 2002.
