   625 ILCS 5/3-117.1        from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-117.1                     

        Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code.  Provides that when an  insurer      
   has  paid  a  total  loss claim for hail damage or similar damage that      
   does not affect the operational safety of a vehicle less than 9  model      
   years  of  age,  ownership  of  the  vehicle  may  be  retained by the      
   registered owner.  Effective immediately.                                   
        SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1.                                                
        Limits the applicability of the bill to losses for hail damage.
