   105 ILCS 5/10-20.9a       from Ch. 122, par. 10-20.9a                       
   105 ILCS 5/34-18.18                                                         

        Amends  the  School  Code.   Prohibits  a  school  district  from      
   promoting a student to the next higher grade level if the student  has      
   more  than  10 days of unexcused absences, unless the student makes up      
   those absences  by  attending  a  remedial  or  summer  school  class.      
   Effective immediately.                                                      
        HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1.                                                 
        Provides that a student may not be promoted to  the  next  higher      
   grade level if the student has more than 20 days of unexcused absences      
   in that school year (instead of 10 days of unexcused absences).
