92_SR0551 LRB9218375KFkfA 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of 3 Illinois mourn the recent passing of Daniel W. Snyder Sr. of 4 Blue Island at the age of 101; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Snyder was the oldest living native son of 6 Blue Island; he lived on his own in the same house his 7 parents had built; he was one of eight children; and 8 WHEREAS, As a young boy, he made a telegraph machine that 9 allowed him to receive news from around the world; he went to 10 work with his father, John, at the Highland Iron and Steel 11 Company, and by the time he was 18 he was considered a 12 specialist and earned the rank of chief engineer for the 13 company; 14 WHEREAS, After the steel mills in the area began 15 relocating, he decided to go into business for himself; he 16 opened Dan's ice cream and hamburger shop in Blue Island; he 17 later operated Snyder Foods which was a wholesale outlet for 18 restaurants; and 19 WHEREAS, In 1926, he married his childhood sweetheart, 20 Gerta; they were married 68 years before her passing in 1994; 21 and 22 WHEREAS, After his retirement, he spent a lot of time 23 fishing which prompted him and five other men to purchase a 24 small clay hole in the Village of Dolton; the fishing hole 25 soon became known as Piscateer Lake; and the men became the 26 founders of a private fishing club known as the Piscateers 27 which is still in operation today; and 28 WHEREAS, His secret to living a long life was being a 29 good son, a good husband, a good father, and always striving 30 to be a good man; and -2- LRB9218375KFkfA 1 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by all his 2 friends and family, especially his son, Daniel W. Jr. 3 (Sonya); and his grandchildren, Daniel W. III and Grant R.; 4 therefore, be it 5 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing 7 of Daniel W. Snyder Sr., along with all who knew and loved 8 him and extend our sincere condolences to his family and 9 friends; and be it further 10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 11 presented to the family of Daniel W. Snyder Sr.
