92_SR0500 LRB9217760RHprA 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincerest condolences to the family and friends 4 of Thomas O'Connor, who passed away on August 22, 2002; and 5 WHEREAS, Born on June 8, 1931 in Chicago and raised on 6 the city's South Side, Thomas O'Connor was a founding member 7 of the Alsip Park District and a commissioner on the park 8 board; and 9 WHEREAS, With the assistance of the members of the Alsip 10 Little League and men's softball league, which he helped 11 organize, Mr. O'Connor helped establish the Alsip Park 12 District in 1965; he also worked as a part-time employee at 13 the park district's Fountain Hills Golf Course and was a 14 retired truck driver; and 15 WHEREAS, A Korean War veteran, Mr. O'Connor was a member 16 of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion 17 chapters; he was also a member of the St. Terrence Men's Club 18 and the Alsip Sportsmen's Club; and 19 WHEREAS, A resident of Alsip since 1961, Mr. O'Connor was 20 actively involved in Alsip politics and was a member of the 21 Alsip's Peoples Party; his wife, Nancy, who preceded him in 22 death, designed the Alsip village flag; and 23 WHEREAS, Mr. O'Connor was very dedicated to his family; 24 he made sure to attend many of his children's functions when 25 they were growing up and often came to watch his 26 grandchildren play sports; and 27 WHEREAS, Mr. O'Connor was a very generous man; he 28 literally was known to have given the shirt off his back to a 29 stranger; and 30 WHEREAS, Mr. O'Connor is survived by his sons, Gabriel -2- LRB9217760RHprA 1 O'Connor, Mark O'Connor, and Daniel O'Connor; his daughter, 2 Nancy J. O'Connor; and his five grandchildren; therefore, be 3 it 4 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 5 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 6 all who knew him, the death of Thomas O'Connor of Alsip, 7 Illinois; and be it further 8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 9 presented to the family of Thomas O'Connor with our sincere 10 condolences.
