 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Illinois  Senate  wish  to
 3    express  their  sincere condolences to the family and friends
 4    of Goldie Francile Orr, who passed away on  March  13,  2002;
 5    and

 6        WHEREAS,  Goldie  Francile  Orr was born in Parke County,
 7    Indiana, on October 29, 1909; she was the  youngest  of  four
 8    daughters  born  to  General  L.  Peoples  and Nannie Jamuson
 9    Peoples; and

10        WHEREAS, Upon graduation from Bloomington High School  in
11    Indiana,  she attended Ohio State University; when her family
12    moved to Chicago, she continued her education at Crane Junior
13    College  and  earned  a  Bachelor's  Degree  from  the  Lewis
14    Institute in Chicago; she  continued  her  education  through
15    graduate courses at several universities; and

16        WHEREAS,  Mrs.  Orr  professed a faith in God at an early
17    age and joined  the  Bethel  A.M.E.  Church  in  Bloomington,
18    Indiana;  she  was an active member of St. Luke A.M.E. Church
19    since 1937, where she served as Director of the Junior Choir,
20    as a Trustee, and on numerous committees;  she  continued  to
21    demonstrate  her  love  for  music by singing and playing the
22    piano while a patient at O'Fallon Health Care Center; and

23        WHEREAS, Goldie Orr was married to Attorney Louis F.  Orr
24    on  October  30,  1937; they were blessed with the birth of a
25    daughter, Marjorie Preston; her husband preceded her in death
26    in 1961; and

27        WHEREAS, Mrs. Orr was  employed  by  the  Illinois  State
28    Employment  Service  for  30 years; she served as Supervisor,
29    Test Administrator,  and  Vocational  Counselor;  during  her
30    career,  she  worked with seniors from seven high schools; in
31    addition, she visited various schools where  she  tested  and

 1    counseled students about future vocational choices; and

 2        WHEREAS,  Mrs.  Orr  was  very  active  in  the community
 3    serving on board of the Annette Center, the  East  St.  Louis
 4    Housing   Authority,  and  the  Employees  Savings  and  Loan
 5    Company; she was a loyal member of the East St. Louis Alumnae
 6    Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.;  she  instituted
 7    their guidance program that introduced high school seniors to
 8    people from various professions and careers; and

 9        WHEREAS,  The  passing  of  Goldie  Francile  Orr will be
10    deeply felt by all who knew and  loved  her,  especially  her
11    daughter,  Marjorie  Orr  Preston;  her  grandchildren, Craig
12    (Nicole) Preston, Elise (Charles) Mallory, and Robert (Tracy)
13    Preston;  her  four  great-grandchildren;  and  her   nieces,
14    nephews,  friends,  and sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
15    Inc.; therefore, be it

16        RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-SECOND  GENERAL
17    ASSEMBLY  OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
18    all who knew her, the death of Goldie Francile Orr; and be it
19    further

20        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
21    presented  to  the  family  of  Goldie  Francile Orr with our
22    sincere condolences.
