 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Illinois  Senate  wish  to
 3    express  their  sincere condolences to the family and friends
 4    of Daniel  T.  Drew,  mayor  of  Waukegan,  who  passed  away
 5    unexpectedly January 30, 2002; and

 6        WHEREAS, Daniel T. Drew was the fifth child and first son
 7    of  local  oil  company  entrepreneur Daniel B. Drew and Anne
 8    Drew, born July 22, 1948 in Waukegan; and

 9        WHEREAS, Mayor Drew was a member of St. Anastasia Parish,
10    a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and a  member
11    of  the  first  graduating  class  of  Carmel High School; he
12    attended the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota,
13    and graduated from Loyola University in Chicago; he  received
14    his  master's  degree  from  Webster University in St. Louis,
15    Missouri; and

16        WHEREAS,  Mr. Drew was the Superintendent of Finance  for
17    the  Waukegan  Park  District  for  16  years,  Waukegan City
18    Collector from 1979 to 1985,  City  Treasurer  from  1993  to
19    2001, and currently was mayor of the city of Waukegan; and

20        WHEREAS,  Mayor  Drew  had  spent  a  busy nine months in
21    office after emerging from a  six-vote  victory  over  Newton
22    Finn,  succeeding  Bill  Durkin  as  mayor  of  Lake County's
23    largest municipality;  becoming mayor of his native city  was
24    the  culmination  of  a  life-long  dream for Mayor Drew; his
25    desire for improvement in  Waukegan  was  apparent,  spurring
26    redevelopment  of  venues  such as the renovation of the 1927
27    movie house, the Genesee Theatre; and

28        WHEREAS, Mayor Drew was a gentlemen who always left on  a
29    positive  note  and  had  raised  the  standard for those who
30    follow to try and achieve; and

31        WHEREAS, Mayor Drew will be deeply missed  by  all  those

 1    who  knew him and loved him, especially his wife, Peggy, with
 2    whom he was  united  in  marriage  on  March  25,  1972;  his
 3    children,  Maggie (Fred) Losch, Dan (Allison) Drew, Christine
 4    Drew and Kevin Drew;  his  sisters,  Marianne  (Peter)  Jula,
 5    Donna  (Claude)  Incaudo,  Sr. Betty Drew S.H.C.J., and Katie
 6    (Ron) Spong; his aunts, Lollie Drew  and  Carol  Mather;  his
 7    uncle,  Al  Sudeikis;  and  many cousins, nieces and nephews;
 8    therefore, be it

 9        RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-SECOND  GENERAL
10    ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we send our heartfelt
11    sympathies  to the family and friends of Mayor Daniel T. Drew
12    of Waukegan with the knowledge that Mayor Drew was a man with
13    a vision who just scratched the surface of what he wished  to
14    accomplish; and be it further

15        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
16    presented to the family of Mayor  Daniel  T.  Drew  with  our
17    deepest sympathies.
