1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends
4 of Michael Steven Zuber of Hillsboro, Illinois, who passed
5 away on January 11, 2002; and
6 WHEREAS, Michael was born on February 14, 1986, to Jim
7 and Becky Zuber of Hillsboro; and
8 WHEREAS, Michael was born with a heart condition known as
9 Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome; Michael underwent a
10 high-risk open-heart surgery four days after his birth known
11 as the Norwood Operation and gained attention nationwide as a
12 medical miracle, being the first to leave a Missouri hospital
13 alive after the procedure; and
14 WHEREAS, Michael fought his heart problems courageously
15 and his courage, faith, sense of humor and strong spirit were
16 an inspiration to many; throughout his life, Michael made
17 public appearances and was a perennial favorite on the annual
18 Children's Miracle Network telethon; his charismatic
19 personality led to a friendship with St. Louis Cardinal's
20 pitcher Steve Kline and was Kline's guest in the Cardinal's
21 clubhouse just before he had a heart transplant in September,
22 2001; and
23 WHEREAS, Michael was a freshman at Hillsboro High School
24 and enjoyed all sports, especially professional wrestling; he
25 also enjoyed music; Michael was a member of the Family,
26 Career and Community Leaders of America and attended the
27 Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, where he was involved in
28 the youth program; and
29 WHEREAS, The passing of Michael Zuber will be deeply felt
30 by all who knew and loved him, especially his parents, James,
31 Jr. and Rebecca Zuber; his sisters, Anne-Marie Zuber, and

1 Jamie Lee Zuber; his maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Ann
2 Mae Hempken; his paternal grandparents, James H., Sr. and
3 Carole Zuber, and his several aunts, uncles and cousins;
4 therefore, be it
5 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
7 all those who knew him and loved him, the death of Michael
8 Steven Zuber of Hillsboro, Illinois; and be it further
9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to family of Michael Steven Zuber.
