92_SR0254 LRB9210739RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of former Illinois State Senator Walter Duda, who passed away 5 on October 10, 2001; and 6 WHEREAS, Senator Duda, a longtime Chicago resident, 7 represented the 15th District in the State Senate for four 8 years in the late 1960s; and 9 WHEREAS, Senator Duda was the chief Senate sponsor of 10 legislation that set out requirements to certify social 11 workers and an exemption bill that provided property tax 12 relief for senior citizens; and 13 WHEREAS, Before entering the Senate, Senator Duda worked 14 as a high school counselor and a 6th grade teacher in Skokie, 15 a Cook County juvenile court social worker and a real estate 16 agent; he earned his seat in the Illinois Senate by 17 campaigning door-to-door; and 18 WHEREAS, Although never a professional politician, 19 Senator Duda was a political news junkie who read several 20 newspapers, watched the nightly news and devoured the 21 biographies of local and national political leaders; and 22 WHEREAS, The passing of former State Senator Walter Duda 23 will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, especially 24 his wife of 58 years, Lilyan; his daughters, Deanna Sawyer, 25 Rosemary Puckelwartz and Amy Warman; his son, Ladd Duda; his 26 sister, Judy Vanderhoof; his five grandchildren; and his 27 friends and colleagues in the Illinois State Senate; 28 therefore, be it 29 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 30 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 31 all who knew him, the death of former Illinois State Senator -2- LRB9210739RHrh 1 Walter Duda of Chicago; and be it further 2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 3 presented to the family of former Illinois State Senator 4 Walter Duda with our sincere condolences.
