 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Illinois  Senate  wish  to
 3    express  their  sincere condolences to the family and friends
 4    of Maynard C. Becker of Mount  Olive,  Illinois,  who  passed
 5    away on October 6, 2001; and

 6        WHEREAS,  Maynard C. Becker was born on March 28, 1914 in
 7    Mount Olive to Edward Herman  and  Minnie  Keune  Becker;  he
 8    married  Elizabeth  Jane  Potts  in  1939 in Huntington, West
 9    Virginia; and

10        WHEREAS, Mr. Becker attended Mount Olive Grade School and
11    graduated from Mount Olive High School in 1931;  he  attended
12    the  University  of  Illinois  and  transferred  to  Millikin
13    University,  where  he  graduated  in  1935;  he received his
14    mortuary  degree   from   Hohenschuh-Carpenter   College   of
15    Embalming in St. Louis; and

16        WHEREAS,  In  1938,  Mr.  Becker opened a funeral home in
17    Taylorville along with his partner, Wilbert  Ross;  in  1940,
18    they  sold  the  Taylorville funeral home and opened Ross and
19    Becker Funeral Home in Litchfield; in 1949, Mr.  Becker  left
20    Litchfield to join his father at Becker and Son Funeral Home;
21    in addition, he drove an ambulance at all three locations for
22    more than 40 years; and

23        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Becker  was  a  life  member  of  the Zion
24    Lutheran Church in Mount Olive, the first  president  of  the
25    Mount  Olive  Ambulance Association, the current president of
26    the Mount Olive Cemetery Board, a former exalted ruler of the
27    Litchfield Elks Club, a life member of the Mount Olive Turner
28    Hall, and a member for more than 60 years of the National and
29    Illinois Funeral Directors' Association; and

30        WHEREAS, The passing of Maynard C. Becker will be  deeply
31    felt  by  all  who  knew  and loved him, especially his wife,

 1    Elizabeth; his daughters, Jane Becker and Judy (husband, Ken)
 2    Hinkley;  his  son,  Ed  (wife,  Shelley)   Becker;   his   8
 3    grandchildren;  his  10 great-grandchildren; and his brother,
 4    Dr. Vernon (wife, Bettye) Becker; therefore, be it

 5        RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-SECOND  GENERAL
 6    ASSEMBLY  OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
 7    all who knew him, the death of Maynard  C.  Becker  of  Mount
 8    Olive, Illinois; and be it further

 9        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
10    presented to the family of Maynard C. Becker with our sincere
11    condolences.
