92_SR0166 LRB9209065RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Thomas B. Tharp, who passed away on February 23, 2001; and 5 WHEREAS, Thomas Buchanon Tharp was born on June 6, 1934 6 in East St. Louis, Illinois to the late William and Maggie 7 Tharp; and 8 WHEREAS, Thomas B. Tharp was a lifetime member of 9 Truelight Baptist Church; as a child he participated in the 10 choir and Sunday School; he attended public school in the 11 East St. Louis School District; he graduated from Lincoln 12 Senior High School in June, 1952, where he was a member of 13 the acapella choir; recently he was a member of the Voices of 14 Truelight and the Westbrook Green Concert Choir; and 15 WHEREAS, Prior to his service in the United States Army, 16 Thomas C. Tharp began an illustrious career in the insurance 17 industry, receiving numerous awards for outstanding sales and 18 service; he worked for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company for 19 thirty years before retiring; and 20 WHEREAS, Thomas B. Tharp was an avid fan of jazz 21 musicians such as Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Thelonnious 22 Monk; he also enjoyed playing cards, attending jazz concerts, 23 and watching nature programs, comedic movies, documentaries 24 and other types of television; and 25 WHEREAS, The passing of Thomas B. Tharp will be deeply 26 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, 27 Lorene; his brother, William (wife, Delores) Tharp; his 28 daughters, Artanue (husband, Verne) Foster and Felita 29 (husband, Christopher) Thomas; his granddaughters, Caprice 30 Gabriel Foster, Kristen Dominique Foster, and Tia Michelle 31 Garner; his grandsons, Christopher Allen Thomas, II, Cameron -2- LRB9209065RHrh 1 Anthony Thomas, and Darryl Lewis Garner, Jr.; his in-laws, 2 Royzell Greenwood, Faye Bush Tharp, Mary Alice Tharp, Lee G. 3 Russell, Marion Greenwood, Lonzo and Barbara Greenwood, Roy 4 and Debra Greenwood, Vennie and Mary Bennett, Luther and 5 Jacqueline Brooks, and Teri and Darryl Garner; and a host of 6 nieces, nephews, other relatives, and special friends; 7 therefore, be it 8 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 10 all who knew him, the death of Thomas B. Tharp of East St. 11 Louis, Illinois; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 13 presented to the family of Thomas B. Tharp with our sincere 14 condolences.
