 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, Lynda Lee Ladley was born on October 2, 1941  in
 3    Ashland,  Illinois;  the  loving  daughter  of  John  T.  and
 4    Mardelle Canfield; and

 5        WHEREAS,  Following  an education in public schools, Mrs.
 6    Ladley moved to Springfield and began a distinguished 34-year
 7    career in State government as a  telecommunications  operator
 8    in the Secretary of State's Index Division, later accepting a
 9    position  as  a  legislative  secretary and a committee clerk
10    with the Illinois House of Representatives; and

11        WHEREAS, In 1971, Mrs. Ladley was assigned as a secretary
12    to a group of legislators that included a freshman Republican
13    from Kankakee, George H. Ryan; and

14        WHEREAS, While Mr. Ryan moved through the ranks of  State
15    government, he called on Mrs. Ladley for 30 years to organize
16    and  administer  his  executive  office  as  he fulfilled his
17    obligations as House Republican Leader, Speaker of the House,
18    Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, and Governor; and

19        WHEREAS, Mrs. Ladley  also  organized  and  supervised  a
20    succession  of  clerical support staff in the legislative and
21    executive branches of government; and

22        WHEREAS, Mrs. Ladley was a  friend,  mentor,  and  mother
23    confessor  to  a  generation of officers and legislators from
24    both sides of the political aisle, countless  State  workers,
25    and members of Mr. Ryan's extended staff; and

26        WHEREAS,  Mrs. Ladley deftly handled all assignments with
27    a constant, infectious good humor that charmed  everyone  who
28    entered  her  presence, as well as grace, dignity, and a high
29    standard of professionalism; and

30        WHEREAS, Mrs. Ladley  was  a  board  member  of  Illinois

 1    Inaugural  1999  and the co-chair of the Inaugural "Relay for
 2    Life" of the Sangamon County chapter of the  American  Cancer
 3    Society,  and  supported  several  charities  as  well as the
 4    Episcopal Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Springfield; and

 5        WHEREAS, Mrs. Ladley is survived by her husband,  Ronald;
 6    her  mother;  three  daughters, Nancy, Patricia, and Milynda;
 7    her three stepdaughters,  Cynthia,  Ronda,  and  Judith;  her
 8    brother, Wayne; her ten grandchildren; and several nieces and
 9    nephews; and

10        WHEREAS,  Mrs. Ladley succumbed to a lingering illness on
11    April 28, 2001, bringing to a close a life dedicated  to  the
12    well-being and service of her family and friends; and

13        WHEREAS,  Members  of  the  Illinois  Senate  are  deeply
14    saddened to learn of Mrs. Ladley's passing; therefore, be it

15        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
16    ASSEMBLY OF THE  STATE  OF  ILLINOIS,  that  we  express  our
17    deepest  sympathy  to  the  family  and  friends of Lynda Lee
18    Ladley and our desire that  her  memory  and  good  works  be
19    honored sine die; and be it further

20        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
21    presented to the family of Lynda Lee Ladley with our  sincere
22    condolences.
