92_SR0110 LRB9208703RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Henri Joseph Chicoine, who passed away on April 10, 2001; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Henri Joseph Chicoine was born in Sioux City, 7 Iowa; he graduated from Iowa State University; and 8 WHEREAS, Mr. Chicoine was a veteran of the United States 9 Navy, where he served with the Seabees in the Pacific; after 10 his service was completed, Mr. Chicoine joined the Navy 11 Reserves and served on active duty during the Korean War; and 12 WHEREAS, Mr. Chicoine moved to the Downers Grove area in 13 1957; that same year he began an impressive 32-year teaching 14 career at Downers Grove North High School where he served an 15 an industrial arts teacher; known as "Hank" to his colleagues 16 and "Mr. C" to his students, Mr. Chicoine was a skilled 17 craftsman who believed that he could influence his students 18 lives beyond the books; in addition to his teaching, he 19 funded the "Mr. C" scholarship in addition to many other 20 scholarships; he also established the school's first 21 cooperative education program in 1966; Mr. Chicoine retired 22 in 1989 after thirty-two years at Downers Grove North High 23 School but returned to the school as a volunteer technical 24 director of plays and musicals; and 25 WHEREAS, Mr. Chicoine served as a volunteer to many 26 organizations, which included St. Mary's of Gostyn Catholic 27 Church in Downers Grove, the Sharing Connection, FISH, the 28 Good Shepherd Mission in Kentucky, and he spent two days a 29 week rebuilding baby cribs that were lent out to parents in 30 need; and 31 WHEREAS, Mr. Chicoine was a member of the Aurora -2- LRB9208703RHrh 1 Sportsmen's Club; he was also an avid collector of coins, a 2 hunter, a fisherman, a card player, and he was deeply 3 committed to his faith; and 4 WHEREAS, The passing of Henri Joseph Chicoine will be 5 deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his 6 former wife, Dixie Chicoine; his daughters, Yvonne 7 Chicoine-Starke, Juli Gniadek, and Mary Chicoine; his 8 brother, Eugene Chicoine; his half-sister, Mary Fran Hansen; 9 and his three grandchildren; and 10 WHEREAS, In addition to his family, Mr. Chicoine will 11 also be remembered by his colleagues at Downers Grove North 12 High School, countless students, and his many friends; 13 therefore, be it 14 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 15 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 16 all who knew him, the death of Henri Joseph Chicoine of 17 Downers Grove, Illinois; and be it further 18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 19 presented to the family of Henri Joseph Chicoine with our 20 sincere condolences.
