 1                       SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The Boeing Company has announced its decision to
 3    relocate its corporate headquarters from  Seattle,  where  it
 4    has been located for 85 years; and

 5        WHEREAS,  In  relocating  its  headquarters,  the  Boeing
 6    Company   is  seeking  access  to  global  markets,  cultural
 7    diversity, and a strong, pro-business environment; and

 8        WHEREAS, The Boeing Company has  identified  the  Chicago
 9    metropolitan  area as one of the 3 sites being considered for
10    its new world headquarters; and

11        WHEREAS, The Boeing Company  will  be  working  with  the
12    Governor  and  the General Assembly through the Department of
13    Commerce and Community Affairs; and

14        WHEREAS, The Chicago metropolitan area is the number  one
15    transportation  hub in the United States, offering rail, air,
16    and highway systems  that  criss-cross  the  nation  and  the
17    world, with non-stop air service to 143 domestic destinations
18    and  43 international destinations, offering access to growth
19    opportunities around the globe; and

20        WHEREAS, The Chicago metropolitan  area  is  home  to  67
21    Consuls General, 1,500 foreign-owned companies and hosts more
22    trade  shows  with  international participants than any other
23    area of the country; and

24        WHEREAS,  The  Chicago  metropolitan  area's  world-class
25    cultural  richness  not  only  shows  in   its   multifaceted
26    recreational  opportunities,  but  also  in its well-educated
27    workforce and high quality of life; and

28        WHEREAS, Illinois is home to 37  Fortune  500  companies,
29    the  Chicago Board of Trade, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange,
30    the  Chicago  Board  Options  Exchange,  the  Midwest   Stock

 1    Exchange,   and   some  of  the  world's  greatest  financial
 2    institutions; and

 3        WHEREAS, The Chicago metropolitan area is home  to  2  of
 4    the nation's best MBA programs at Northwestern University and
 5    the  University  of Chicago, and Illinois graduates more than
 6    3,400 engineering students from  its  universities  annually;
 7    and

 8        WHEREAS,  The  Chicago  metropolitan area is a hotbed for
 9    research and development, with Argonne and Fermilab  research
10    labs,  the  I-88  Tech  Corridor, Abbott Laboratories, Baxter
11    International, Inc., Eli Lilly and Company, the Chicago  Tech
12    Park,  the  DuPage  Research  Park,  and the Illinois Medical
13    Center  District,  along  with  world-class  institutions  of
14    learning; and

15        WHEREAS, Chicago  was  recently  named  the  "third-best"
16    business city in the country by Fortune magazine; and

17        WHEREAS,  The  Chicago  metropolitan area is politically,
18    culturally, and economically  diverse  making  it  a  premier
19    location  for  the  Boeing  Company's new world headquarters;
20    therefore, be it

21        RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-SECOND  GENERAL
22    ASSEMBLY   OF   THE   STATE   OF   ILLINOIS,   THE  HOUSE  OF
23    REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, That we  strongly  support
24    and  encourage  the Boeing Company to re-locate its corporate
25    headquarters to the Chicago  metropolitan  area;  and  be  it
26    further

27        RESOLVED,  That  we  urge  the Department of Commerce and
28    Community Affairs to  help  facilitate  this  re-location  by
29    aggressively  assisting  the Boeing Company in its relocation
30    planning; and be it further

31        RESOLVED, That suitable  copies  of  this  resolution  be

 1    delivered  to  the  Governor and the Director of Commerce and
 2    Community Affairs.
