 1                    AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 2223

 2        AMENDMENT NO.     .  Amend Senate Bill 2223, on  page  1,
 3    line 5, by replacing "Section" with "Sections 5-23 and"; and

 4    on  page  1,  immediately  below  line  5,  by  inserting the
 5    following:

 6        "(225 ILCS 65/5-23)
 7        (Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2008)
 8        Sec.  5-23.   Criminal  background  check.    After   the
 9    effective  date  of  this  amendatory Act of the 91st General
10    Assembly, the  Department  shall  require  an  applicant  for
11    initial  licensure  under  this  Act  to submit to a criminal
12    background check by the Illinois State Police and the Federal
13    Bureau of Investigation as  part  of  the  qualification  for
14    licensure.   If  an  applicant's  criminal  background  check
15    indicates  criminal  conviction,  the  applicant must further
16    submit to a fingerprint-based criminal background check.  The
17    Department shall adopt rules to implement this Section.
