1 AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1588
2 AMENDMENT NO. . Amend Senate Bill 1588 on page 1, by
3 replacing lines 4 and 5 with the following:
4 "Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
5 changing Section 3-600 and adding Section 3-653 as follows:
6 (625 ILCS 5/3-600) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-600)
7 Sec. 3-600. Requirements for issuance of special plates.
8 (a) The Secretary of State shall not issue a series of
9 special plates unless applications, as prescribed by the
10 Secretary, have been received for 10,000 plates of that
11 series; except that:
12 (1) with regard to special plates that the General
13 Assembly has authorized for issuance before January 1,
14 2003, the Secretary of State may prescribe some other
15 required number of applications if that number is
16 sufficient to pay for the total cost of designing,
17 manufacturing and issuing the special license plate; and.
18 (2) with regard to special plates that the General
19 Assembly has authorized for issuance on and after January
20 1, 2003, the Secretary of State may not issue a new
21 series of special plates unless applications, as
22 prescribed by the Secretary, have been received for at

1 least 850 plates of that series.
2 (b) The Secretary of State, upon issuing a new series of
3 special license plates, shall notify all law enforcement
4 officials of the design, color and other special features of
5 the special license plate series.
6 (c) This Section shall not apply to special license
7 plate categories in existence on the effective date of this
8 amendatory Act of 1990, or to the Secretary of State's
9 discretion as established in Section 3-611.
