1 AN ACT concerning video games.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5 Violent Video Game Warning Act.
6 Section 5. Definitions. For purposes of this Act,
7 "video game containing graphic violence" means a video game
8 or software rated Mature ("M") by the Entertainment Software
9 Rating Board, or successor entities, or containing a visual
10 depiction or representation of realistic serious injury to a
11 human or human-like being where such serious injury includes
12 amputation, decapitation, dismemberment, repeated instances
13 of bloodshed, mutilation, maiming or disfiguration, depiction
14 of death or severe injury, or grotesque cruelty.
15 Section 10. Warning required to be posted. A person or
16 business that offers for sale, lease, or rent any video game
17 containing graphic violence shall conspicuously display at
18 the entrance and exit of the business establishment the
19 following warning:
20 "This store offers (for rent, sale, or lease) video
21 games rated M which contain graphic violence. Parental
22 supervision of the purchase, rental, or lease of video
23 games rated M by children under 17 is advised."
24 Section 15. Penalty. A violation of this Act is a petty
25 offense punishable by a fine not to exceed $250.
