1 AN ACT in relation to hospitals.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Hospital Licensing Act is amended by
5 adding Section 10.5 as follows:
6 (210 ILCS 85/10.5 new)
7 Sec. 10.5. Licensed clinical psychologist; staff
8 membership.
9 (a) "Licensed clinical psychologist" means a clinical
10 psychologist licensed under the Clinical Psychologist
11 Licensing Act.
12 (b) A hospital may choose to grant to a licensed
13 clinical psychologist an opportunity to obtain hospital
14 medical staff privileges to admit, treat, and discharge
15 patients within the scope of his or her license for the
16 practice of clinical psychology. Each hospital may determine
17 whether the applicant's training, experience, and
18 demonstrated competence are sufficient to justify the
19 granting of medical staff privileges or of limited medical
20 staff privileges.
21 (c) If a hospital grants a licensed clinical
22 psychologist medical staff privileges or limited medical
23 staff privileges under subsection (b) the psychologist or the
24 hospital shall, prior to or at the time of hospital admission
25 of a patient for medically necessary care, identify an
26 appropriate physician with admitting privileges at the
27 hospital who shall be responsible for the medical evaluation
28 and medical management of the patient for the duration of his
29 or her hospitalization.
30 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
