92_SB0780 LRB9203970DHmbA 1 AN ACT regarding vehicles. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by 5 changing Section 12-801 as follows: 6 (625 ILCS 5/12-801) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-801) 7 Sec. 12-801. Color and signs. 8 (a) The exterior of each school bus shall be national 9 school bus glossy yellow except as follows: 10 The rooftop may be white. 11 The fenders of school buses manufactured before January 12 1, 1976, may be black. 13 Body trim, rub rails, lettering other than on a stop 14 signal arm and bumpers on a Type I school bus shall be glossy 15 black. 16 Lettering on a stop signal arm shall be white on a red 17 background. 18 Bumpers on a Type II school bus may be glossy black or a 19 bright, light or colorless finish. 20 The hood and upper cowl may be lusterless black or 21 lusterless school bus yellow. 22 Grilles on the front, lamp trim and hubcaps may be a 23 bright finish. 24 The name or emblem of a manufacturer may be colorless or 25 any color. 26 The exterior paint of any school bus shall match the 27 central value, hue and chroma set forth in rules promulgated 28 by the Department. 29 (b) Local school boards may elect, and any school bus 30 company may agree, to display signs bearing public safety 31 messages on their Type I school buses. The signs may be of -2- LRB9203970DHmbA 1 any color, may be no larger than 2 feet in height and 6 feet 2 in width, and may be displayed within frames on either side 3 or both sides of any Type I school bus. Local school boards 4 electing to display these signs on their Type I school buses 5 shall adopt rules regarding the content of the signs. 6 (Source: P.A. 88-415; 89-433, eff. 12-15-95.) 7 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 8 becoming law.
