 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, State Representative Jim  Durkin,  our  esteemed
 3    colleague  from  the  44th  District,  is leaving the General
 4    Assembly after 8 years of distinguished service; and

 5        WHEREAS, Representative Durkin has focused on  protecting
 6    and  strengthening  families  and  communities; he has worked
 7    tirelessly  to  keep  neighborhoods   safe   from   dangerous
 8    criminals;  he  spearheaded  the  effort to pass Crime Victim
 9    Community  Notification  legislation,  which  establishes   a
10    statewide  network  to  immediately notify crime victims when
11    their attacker is released from custody; and

12        WHEREAS, He has shown his dedication  to  the  safety  of
13    this State's children through his efforts to provide children
14    with  school  environments that are free from violence and to
15    protect the children of this  State  from  pornographers;  he
16    introduced  legislation  to  ensure  that child pornographers
17    serve mandatory prison sentences for  their  crimes;  and  he
18    worked  with the Attorney General's Office to pass the Safe 2
19    Learn Program, which works to prevent violence in our schools
20    before it occurs; and

21        WHEREAS, During his  years  of  service,  he  has  earned
22    several  honors;  in  1997,  the  Illinois  Community College
23    Trustee Association named him Legislator  of  the  Year;  the
24    Operating  Engineer Local 150 named him Statesman of the Year
25    in 1999; in 2001, he was awarded Citizen  of  the  Year  from
26    Sarah's  Inn  Domestic  Violence  Shelter in Oak Park; and in
27    2002, the Illinois Crime Commission named him  Legislator  of
28    the Year; and

29        WHEREAS,   Representative   Durkin   has  been  supported
30    throughout his public and private life by  his  wife  Celeste
31    and   his   four  daughters,  Adrienne,  Madeline,  Emma  and
32    Caroline; therefore be it

 1        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 2    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 3    we  commend  Representative  Durkin  on  his  service  in the
 4    Illinois House of  Representatives and we  wish  him  success
 5    and happiness in his future endeavors; and be it further

 6        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 7    presented to him with our admiration and appreciation.
