1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to express our sincere condolences to
4 the family and friends of John Ziemkowski, who passed away on
5 July 19, 2002; and
6 WHEREAS, John "Jack" Ziemkowski was a retired Cook County
7 Sheriff's police officer with thirty years of service; and
8 WHEREAS, Mr. Ziemkowski was born on October 20, 1940 in
9 Chicago to John H. and Helene Ziemkowski; he married JoAnn
10 Piwkiewicz on September 14, 1963 in Chicago; and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Ziemkowski graduated from Gordon Tech High
12 School in 1958; following graduation, he attended Chicago
13 Barber School; and
14 WHEREAS, Mr. Ziemkowski joined the Cook County Sheriff's
15 Police Department under Sheriff Richard Ogilvie on June 6,
16 1966; and
17 WHEREAS, Mr. Ziemkowski served with great distinction for
18 thirty years under five sheriffs of Cook County, the
19 Honorable Richard Ogilvie, the Honorable Joseph Woods, the
20 Honorable Richard Elrod, the Honorable James O'Grady, and the
21 Honorable Michael Sheahan; and
22 WHEREAS, In 2001, Jack and JoAnn Ziemkowski were honored
23 for 38 years of marriage; and
24 WHEREAS, Mr. Ziemkowski was an avid outdoorsman and his
25 hobbies included power walking, fishing, and golf; he was a
26 Eucharistic minister and member of St. Jude the Apostle
27 Catholic Church in Dolton; and
28 WHEREAS, The passing of John "Jack" Ziemkowski will be
29 deeply felt by all who know and loved him, especially his
30 wife JoAnn; his sons Mark (wife, Valerie) and Kevin (wife,

1 Colleen); his daughter, Paula (husband, Zeek) Dominguez; his
2 mother, Helene; his mother-in-law, Adeline; his aunt, Martha
3 Penn; his uncles, the Most Reverend Thad Jakubowski and
4 Edward Jakubowski; and his grandchildren John, Ann, Lisa,
5 Gisele, Nicholas, and Zoe; therefore, be it
6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8 we mourn, along with all who knew him, the death of John
9 "Jack" Ziemkowski of South Holland; and be it further
10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to the family of John "Jack" Ziemkowski with our
12 sincere condolences.
