 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are  proud to congratulate the Highland Park
 4    Senior Center on receiving a 2002 Governor's Home Town  Award
 5    for its Kid Courier Program; and

 6        WHEREAS, The Highland Park Senior Center has coordinated,
 7    along  with Elm Place Middle School, the Kid Courier Program,
 8    an intergenerational program that pairs junior high  students
 9    with  senior citizens in need of assistance; the Kid Couriers
10    shop  for  seniors  twice  a  month,  filling  grocery  lists
11    prepared by the seniors, most of whom live in two  subsidized
12    senior  apartment  buildings;  the  seniors  look  forward to
13    seeing their young friends, while the  young  people  get  to
14    learn  about  another generation and reap the satisfaction of
15    providing a much-needed service; the program has become quite
16    popular  and  now  has  high  school  and  college   students
17    participating; in 2001, 47 students took part in the program;
18    and

19        WHEREAS, The Highland Park Senior Center will receive its
20    2002 Governor's Home Town Award at the annual Governor's Home
21    Town  Awards Banquet, which will be held on June 25, 2002, at
22    the  Prairie  Capital  Convention  Center   in   Springfield;
23    therefore, be it

24        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
25    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
26    we congratulate the Highland Park Senior Center on  receiving
27    a 2002 Governor's Home Town Award; and be it further

28        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
29    presented to Charlotte Landsman, Director of Youth and Senior
30    Services, Marla Schachtel, Program Supervisor  of  Youth  and
31    Senior  Services, Paula Cyphers, Senior Center Social Worker,
32    and Laura Frey, Senior Center Program Supervisor.
