92_HR0973 LRB9216661BHbhB 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, June 22, 2002 marks the 150th anniversary of the 3 City of Woodstock; and 4 WHEREAS, Since 1852, events in Woodstock have shaped 5 thousands of lives in the city and around McHenry County; and 6 WHEREAS, Woodstock can claim many leadership roles such 7 as being among the first in McHenry County to benefit from 8 electricity, telephone, and railroad service as well as 9 quality healthcare and education; and 10 WHEREAS, Woodstock is known for providing a high quality 11 of education to its students through esteemed academic 12 programs and various extracurricular opportunities; 13 Woodstock's innovative instructional programs have received 14 statewide and national recognition and serve as models for 15 other districts; student achievement continues to exceed both 16 State and national averages; strong co-curricular programs in 17 athletics, dramatics, vocal and instrumental music, and a 18 variety of clubs and organizations enhance students' learning 19 experiences; and 20 WHEREAS, Students from both Woodstock High School and 21 Marian Central Catholic High School have demonstrated 22 outstanding athletic ability by earning State football 23 championship titles; and 24 WHEREAS, Throughout the year, Woodstock is host to many 25 events, festivals, and fairs; some of the local events 26 include Fair Diddley, Dick Tracy Days, the Fine Art Fair, 27 HarvestFest, farmers market and Groundhog Days, as well as 28 summer band concerts; the beautiful Romanesque-style 29 Woodstock Opera House (a landmark listed in the National 30 Register of Historic Places) serves as the cultural 31 entertainment center of Woodstock, featuring plays, concerts, -2- LRB9216661BHbhB 1 and performances throughout the year, including the 2 nationally renowned Woodstock Mozart Festival held each 3 summer; and 4 WHEREAS, The city is nestled in the center of the most 5 impressive rolling countryside in northern Illinois; several 6 areas within the city exceed 1100 feet above sea level, 7 providing wonderful vistas of the surrounding countryside; 8 Woodstock's extensive park system contains twice the national 9 average of acreage, allowing its citizens plenty of leisure 10 opportunities; therefore, be it 11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 12 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 13 we congratulate the City of Woodstock on its 150th 14 anniversary; and be it further 15 RESOLVED, That June 22, 2002, be declared Woodstock Day 16 in the State of Illinois; and be it further 17 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 18 presented to the Mayor of the City of Woodstock.
