1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are proud to congratulate Ronald and Stanley
4 Jensen of Momence, who were named the 2002 Momence Citizens
5 of the Year; and
6 WHEREAS, The Jensen brothers are natives of Momence and
7 each has given over half a century of volunteerism to the
8 community for the simple reason that it is home; and
9 WHEREAS, At the age of 79, Stanley Jensen is a city
10 alderman, a Lions Club member, and has worked on the
11 Gladiolus Festival 5 and 10K race; he has long maintained the
12 Lions club paper recycling trailer and is in charge of
13 changing the announcements on the community sign; Stanley
14 Jensen also worked on Momence's Millenium New Year's Eve
15 celebration; his most recent project has been the renovation
16 of a southside car dealership into a community hall; and
17 WHEREAS, Stanley Jensen is a member of Our Savior
18 Lutheran Church in Momence, a long-time board member for
19 Municipal Bank, and a member of the American Legion; in his
20 free time, he enjoys golfing; and
21 WHEREAS, Ronald Jensen, at 77, is commonly seen with his
22 brother setting up for Lions Club pancake breakfasts or
23 mowing entryways into the city that need a trim; his long
24 list of volunteerism includes being a school board member for
25 10 years and the Lions Club president for three; in the Lions
26 Club, he initiated the purchase a community sign and not only
27 sets up, but works the pancake breakfasts; and
28 WHEREAS, Ronald Jensen is a member of the Momence VFW and
29 commander of the American Legion Post 40; he is a member of
30 the First United Methodist Church, where is a member of the
31 choir and chairman of the board of trustees; Ronald Jensen

1 helped spearhead and renew the 5 and 10K race that has long
2 been a popular part of the Gladiolus Festival activities; he
3 has worked several Kankakee River clean-up projects and is a
4 substitute bus driver when able; in his free time, Ronald
5 Jensen dabbles in woodworking; and
6 WHEREAS, Ronald Jensen's wife, Phyllis, is a retired
7 school teacher and together, they have three daughters, Julie
8 (Bob) Tallman, Jane Jensen, and Jennifer (Darin) Morse; they
9 also have four grandchildren; and
10 WHEREAS, The Jensen brothers were both Marines during
11 World War II, Stanley serving in the Marine Air Corps and
12 Ronald in field artillery; and
13 WHEREAS, For 35 years together, they operated a farm that
14 included various pieces of ground all around Momence; and
15 WHEREAS, Since Ronald and Stanley Jensen's retirement in
16 1990, things have not slowed down, but given them more time
17 to get involved with different projects, be it for church,
18 community, or city; therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21 we congratulate Ronald and Stanley Jensen of Momence on being
22 named the 2002 Momence Citizens of the Year; and be it
23 further
24 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
25 presented to Ronald and Stanley Jensen as an expression of
26 our esteem.
