1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are proud to congratulate Bruce R. Bachmann
4 of Glencoe for being selected by the American Jewish
5 Committee for the Professional Achievement Award, which will
6 be presented on June 6, 2002; and
7 WHEREAS, Bruce R. Bachmann earned his Bachelor of Science
8 degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and served
9 in the U.S. Army Infantry, Presidential Honor Guard; and
10 WHEREAS, Mr. Bachmann grew through the ranks of his
11 family's business, Polk Brothers; he achieved an Executive
12 Vice Presidency at Heitman Financial and was President of
13 Philipsborn Equities, the real estate subsidiary of I.C.
14 Industries; and
15 WHEREAS, In 1981, Mr. Bachmann established his own real
16 estate firm, Bachmann Associates, Ltd., where he has been
17 active in development and mortgage brokerage; he is a real
18 estate broker and a certified property manager; and
19 WHEREAS, Mr. Bachmann enjoys his responsibilities serving
20 as President of the Jewish Community Centers of Chicago; he
21 is a Board Member of the Polk Bros. Foundation and mentors an
22 "I have a Dream" class of students now completing their
23 college education; Mr. Bachmann is an Associate National
24 Commissioner of the Anti-Defamation League and a Director for
25 Life of the Jewish Council for Youth Services; he is a member
26 of the Chicago Committee, U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, and
27 a Board Member of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
28 Chicago; his love for his Jewish heritage, as well as the
29 children of Israel and the world, was evident during his
30 presidency of Israel Children's Centers; and
31 WHEREAS, Bruce Bachmann married his college sweetheart,

1 Ann Cohen, and together they raised four children, Steve,
2 Cathy (Douglas) Ethridge, Betsy (Jeffrey) Kushen, and Andy;
3 they are the proud grandparents of Rachel, Alex, Benjamin,
4 and Samantha; and
5 WHEREAS, Mr. Bachmann and his wife collect studio glass,
6 and he serves as Vice President of Art Alliance for
7 Contemporary Glass; they attend Temple B'nai Torah; and
8 WHEREAS, In 1990, Bruce Bachmann, along with Stewart
9 Grill and Stuart Kaplan, formed GBK Equity Lenders to provide
10 financing to Chicago-area Builders and Developers; GBK is now
11 the largest firm of its type in the Chicagoland area; in
12 1996, Stuart Kaplan passed away and is remembered with great
13 affection; therefore, be it
14 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16 we congratulate Bruce R. Bachmann for receiving the
17 Professional Achievement Award from the American Jewish
18 Committee; and be it further
19 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to Bruce Bachmann as an expression of our esteem.
